If you live far from a lot of your friends, you probably can relate to this: You have no idea what to send them for their birthdays! The older we get, the more difficult it is to pick out something cute/fun for a long distance friend. That’s why I LOVE birthday boxes. Not only are they really thoughtful, but they are pretty fun to receive as well. A simple birthday box may include some of the following ingredients:
- Birthday hats/crowns
- Balloons
- Noise makers
- Birthday candles
- Birthday “blowouts”
- Streamers
- Birthday Pins
- Birthday Banners
I always just pick a little mix out of those items, and add it to my box. You can add personal items that you think they’d like or enjoy as well! Onto the box:
Again, back to the USPS. Gotta love the flat rate boxes!! This one is the small box, it is $5.95 to ship out, without worrying about how heavy it is. The box will come flat, you’ll have to fold it into a box shape. Lay the flattened box over a section of wrapping paper, and lay Modge Podge all over the box, being careful to not lay it on too thick, as it will cause your wrapping paper to bubble! Then just flip it over, and smooth out the wrapping paper. You may need to add some Modge Podge around the edges again, to be sure it is adhered. Then you’ll cut off the excess paper, either with a scissors, or my personal favorite, a razor blade (just works easier)! Then fold the box up and voila! You’re ready for filling! Now onto the fun part!! I like to take the excess paper that I’ve cut off, and curl it with a scissors to fill the box. I also will take curling ribbon and curl pieces of that as well (I like filler!). Then you’re ready to add all your fun stuff! After you add everything, you can glue the “Birthday Box” cut-out to the top of your box.For this particular box, it was my best friend’s 30th, so I made it a little more fun. I added three tags, each with a different item:
“30 Can Suck” attached to suckers
“30 Can Blow” attached to bubblegum
and “30 Could Really Rock” attached to Poprocks
You can find the free printables, one for each tag, as well as the main box tag here.
