I’ve forgotten what normal people do on Saturday nights. Me, I spend them holed up in our apartment making crafts. I also do my grocery shopping, but that’s a whole different story. This weekend was a very successful one, I might add.
Because I don’t have a wreath for our front door until the 4th of July, I decided to put one together for my birthday! It will most likely stay there until after B’s birthday too…it’s only a month, the neighbors can deal.
I tried looking on Pinterest for ideas for birthday wreaths, and didn’t find anything I really liked. So I thought I’d put something together myself. I ended up starting with some ribbon that I loved at Michaels (these spools are $.50 a piece, and they have fluorescents now!). I went from there. Grabbed a foam wreath (used my 40% off coupon, so it was only $3.60), and picked up some curled ribbon at the Dollar Tree. I didn’t really have any idea where I was going with this project, so even though this is what I started with, it ended completely differently:My original idea was to tie knots with ribbon around the whole wreath, and then add the curling ribbon. When I was going through the box of ribbon I have at home, I found this cool numbered ribbon (perfect for a birthday!) that I had bought from Michael’s Dollar Bin a while back. You could use any ribbon you’d like, I just suggest a thicker ribbon for easier covering. Then I just went from there. I took the curling ribbon apart, and tied the individual pieces in knots around the wreath. After I completed with all the curling ribbon, I just tied knots with the real ribbon, only I didn’t use as much of it as I had thought I would. I just wanted to add some of those fun colors for a better look. I was going to add the yellow bow with the cupcake, but it ended up looking better without the bow, so I hot glued the cupcake to the wreath. The finished product (cost me less than $12):Yes, it looks like we have a child’s birthday party going on at our house, but it’s birthday celebration week, so what the hell! Only three more days!!!
