I’ve expressed it before, and I’ll express it again. I don’t like when July 4th falls on any day between Friday-Monday. Why? Because this means those of us corporate world-ers only get one day off of work. In an ideal world, it would fall on a Tuesday or Thursday, giving us the much-appreciated extra day off. Why can’t July 4th be like Thanksgiving? Nevermind that it’s an actual date, and not just a holiday. That’s just a minor detail.
The Fourth of July always reminds me of fireworks, BBQ’s, and sparklers (my favorite). But this year, there will be no fireworks here. It must be some sort of sacrilegious thing to forgo fireworks, but with a massive drought on hand, I suppose there’s nothing to be done. Maybe we can all throw confetti into the air to improvise. Or glitter.
I have a lot of plans for this weekend. I plan on doing a whole lot of nothing, while watching plenty of nothing on the TV, and eating a bunch of nothing out of the refrigerator. But just in case I suddenly get invited to a crazy party, I made party favors. I mean, I don’t want to show up empty-handed do I?
Dollar Tree was calling my name. I bought Red Vines, blue licorice (score!), and shiny holiday garland. I used one pack of garland for about 30 favors (clearly this imaginary party I plan on attending is going to be cray). I bought long thin bags from Michael’s baking section, and went to work. I designed and printed these tags, and voila! A licorice firecracker was born. I basically should get the 4th of July Award of Excellence. Or at least a sparkler or two.

You and your husband should take a ton of photos with your party favors, photobooth style and it’ll look like you were at a great party! 😉
